Holidays In Australia

Christmas

In Australia, Christmas comes in the middle of the summer holidays! Kids have their summer holidays from early to mid December to early February, so some people probably  be camping or surfing at Christmas!

Because it's so hot at Christmas  in Australia, there are quite often massive bush fires across the country. Many volunteer bush fire fighters are involved in saving people and property and travel from all over Australia to help in other states, which makes a good deed, especially around Christmas.

Many Australians celebrate Halloween, which occurs annually on October 31. It's also known as All Hallows’ Eve and is the day before All Saints’ Day. Costume parties are held and many children go trick-or-treating around that time of the year. Halloween is really similar to any other American Halloween.

Halloween is not a nationwide public holiday in Australia. Retail businesses selling or renting out costumes and other Halloween-themed items may be particularly busy prior to and on Halloween.

All Saints' Day

Many churches in Australia mark All Saints' Day on November 1 each year to honor all the saints, particularly those who do not have their own special feast day. It is not a nationwide holiday in Australia. Some churches hold a special mass or service for All Saints' Day. Many Christian schools may have lessons for students to learn about the role of saints in the history of Christianity at this time of the year.

But, some news reports have stated that some events like All Saints' Day are less recognized in Australia modern times. All Saints' Day, which is celebrated globally, is closely tied with All Souls' Day, which was first instituted at the monastery in Cluny in 993 CE and quickly spread throughout the Christian world. All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day are also linked with Halloween, which is a shortened for the name “All Hallows' Eve”. It is a Christian Holiday.

Australia Day

On January 26, in Australia, they consider themselves very important and open-minded and because of that, they have their own Holiday, which is Australia Day. Australians celebrate their national day – Australia Day – with fun in the sun. It is a designated public holiday with hundreds of small and large events taking place across the nation.

In Sydney, thousands of people gather along Sydney Harbour foreshore for the celebrations on the water. In towns and cities there are community breakfasts, beach parties, corroborees and concerts, parades and pageants, sporting events, cultural and historic exhibitions and fireworks displays.

It's pretty much, just a holiday for Australians to celebrate for being Australian. It's best to visit at this time of year at Australia's relaxed.

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

20 February – 8 March 2015 is the very fabulous Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is the culmination of a month of camp fun and frivolity that includes everything from same-sex dance classes and tug-of-war matches to daytrips around the city and beyond.

Anzac Day

Anzac Day is held on 25 April every year. It is one of Australia's most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during the First World War.

The national ceremony, attended by the Prime Minister and Governor General, is held at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. ANZAC Day is a time when Australians reflect on the many different meanings of war.
